- On Oct. 23, 2011, the Fairfield County Chapter held a discussion of video games, censorship and the First Amendment. The topic was of particular importance after the Supreme Court struck down a California law prohibiting the sale and rental of violent video games to minors. Guest speaker Martin Margulies, Professor Emeritus and Adjunct Professor of Law at Quinnipiac University School of Law, gave an interactive presentation that examined this fascinating case.
- On March 24, ctEQUALITY, ACLU-CT, and the Pride Network held a lively panel discussion with advocates from the transgender and ally communities about discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression, civil rights, and making CT free and equal for all of our state's residents!

-On November 15, Andy Schatz, chair of ACLU-CT and a member of the ACLU National Board, spoke to a crowd of about 40 people about the ACLU position on campaign finance reform, including the recent controversial decision of the Supreme Court in the Citizens United case, striking restrictions on political spending by corporations, and the current legislation about compelled disclosure of the source of such political spending.

In Citizens United, the ACLU supported the position upheld by the Court that the First Amendment bars Congress from restricting political spending, including by corporations, because political spending is a form of protected speech. The ACLU stance has since been subject to a great deal of criticism both inside and outside of the ACLU.

-On September 25, the Southwest Connecticut Chapter held a film screening of Voices in Conflict, a docudrama based on the experiences of Wilton High School students who developed an original play about the Iraq war. The play was initially banned by the school principal, but later was allowed to be presented without school sponsorship. The chapter was joined by Bonnie Dickenson, whose students developed the play, for a post-film discussion on censorship at the state and country-wide levels.
