Join the Hartford Public Library and the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut for a Banned Books Reading at the library Monday, Sept. 26. There will be light refreshments at 6 p.m. with the program to follow at 6:30.
Several notable figures from Greater Hartford will read and discuss selected passages from books that may have been banned from library collections if not for the efforts of librarians, teachers and booksellers. The readers will include Dennis House, Channel 3 Eyewitness News anchor; Hartford Councilman Luis Cotto; author Susan Schoenberger of West Hartford; and Henry Dutcher, Director of the Enfield Public Library. Colin McEnroe of WNPR will serve as moderator.
The books on the program include Mark Twain's classic The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya, Ulysses by James Joyce, and The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby by George Beard and Harold Hutchins.
