ACLU-CT Celebrates LGBT Pride Month

The ACLU-CT joined in celebrating LGBT Pride Month, during June of 2009. Staff and volunteers from the ACLU-CT were out at LGBT events across the state to talk about our work to protect LGBT rights and civil liberties in general.

In an official proclamation President Barack Obama proclaimed June 2009 as LGBT Pride Month. "During LGBT Pride Month, we commit to achieving equal justice under law for LGBT Americans...LGBT Americans have made, and continue to make, great and lasting contributions that continue to strengthen the fabric of American society. Due in no small part to the determination and dedication of the LGBT rights movement, more LGBT Americans are living their lives openly today than ever before."

The ACLU-CT is proud to continue our work in the courts, legislature and locally to fight for LGBT rights. The ACLU-CT has been prominently involved in every battle for LGBT rights in Connecticut including acting as co-counsel in Kerrigan v. Commissioner of Public Health, the case which legalized same-sex marriage, and lead counsel in Baby Z, the second parent adoption case; was instrumental in getting transgender rights recognized in the law and was one of the founding coalition members of Love Makes a Family.

The ACLU-CT had a table to talk about our work on LGBT rights and other civil liberties issues at events in Norwalk and Hartford. We've even included a couple of pictures from the events for your enjoyment.

If there are events in your community you think the ACLU-CT should be a part of e-mail event information to info@acluct.org.
