June 7-Fairfield County Chapter

Hits, Runs, and Errors: Obama's Civil Liberties Scorecard

On Sunday, June 7, at 2:30 pm, in the Ferguson Library in Stamford, Emanuel Margolis will speak to the Fairfield County Chapter of the ACLU-CT. During his talk, "Barack Obama's Civil Liberties Scorecard: Hits, Runs, and Errors," Margolis will discuss the Obama Administration's efforts in confronting the dilemmas of balancing our national security and constitutional liberties. He will review the legacies and challenges which have daunted the incoming administration from the beginning. Margolis will analyze what we can do, as ACLU members, to help improve the prospects for civil liberties.

A graduate of Harvard (Ph.D. 1951) and Yale Law School (J.D. 1956), Margolis serves as a Special Master for the United States District Court and as a Connecticut Superior Court Attorney Trial Referee. Margolis has chaired the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut (1989 to 1995) and the Connecticut Bar Association Section on Human Rights and Responsibilities. He was a member of the Federal Judiciary Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association and was Editor-in-Chief of the Connecticut Bar Journal. He has published numerous articles concerning human rights issues and criminal law, writes a regular column on human rights in The Connecticut Law Tribune, and is an adjunct professor of Civil Rights and First Amendment Law at Quinnipiac University School of Law. Recipient of many awards and honorary positions, Margolis is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, and Who's Who in America.
