The Citizens United Decision: Are Corporations People Too?

Supreme Court - 180: U.S. Supreme Court

Andrew Schatz, president of the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut, will be among the panelists at a community forum Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Hartford Public Library.

The forum will address the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United decision, which found that corporations, labor unions and other associations may act as persons and may not be limited in their spending on political campaigns and issues.

The panel, moderated by Tom Condon, deputy editorial page editor for The Hartford Courant, will also include Secretary of State Denise Merrill; Michael McGarry, chairman of the Hartford Republican Town Committee; and Karen Hobert Flynn, vice president of state operations for Common Cause.

Light refreshments will be served at 5:30 and the program will begin at 6 p.m. The library is at 500 Main St., Hartford.
