Superior Court Judge Marshall Berger has approved the proposed stipulated plan to further the Sheff vs. O’Neill’s goal of desegregating Hartford area schools. Meanwhile, a UConn poll commissioned by the Sheff Movement finds widespread support for the remedies in the agreement – interdistrict magnet schools and “Project Choice” placement of city students in suburban classrooms. Regardless of geography, race, income or other factors, the UConn Poll found, more than 60 percent of all people surveyed support giving parents the options to send their children to schools outside their districts. Support for that approach has grown since a similar poll a decade ago, and most parents say they would consider sending their own children to schools outside their districts.” Read the Sheff “Stipulation and Proposed Order” Read an analysis of the program from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving: “School integration programs benefit urban and suburban students” Sheff v.
