Capitol Lobby Day February 23

ACLU-CT's 2011 Lobby Day at the State Capitol will be held Wednesday February 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and all members are invited to participate.

The day will kick off in the Old Judiciary Room on the third floor of the State Capitol (accessible by the walkway from the Legislative Office Building) with a talk by Shujaa Graham, who spent five years on death row at San Quentin after being wrongfully convicted of murdering a prison guard.

Betty Gallo, ACLU-CT's lobbyist, will lead and training and briefing session, and participants will be helped to track down their local legislators or other key people. Lunch will be provided.

Among the issues on the ACLU-CT legislative agenda are

  • Abolition of the death penalty
  • Adding gender identity and expression to the state non-discrimination law
  • Ending the prohibition of medical marijuana
  • Reducing the number of children arrested for school discipline infractions, and requiring that schools report all such arrests.

Advance registration is required, to register fill out the Lobby Day Registration Form and return to the ACLU-CT by either email, fax or postal mail.
