City anti-profiling ordinance sought

A local effort to bar racial profiling is under way in Hartford, following failure to adopt a state law to that effect in the 2011 General Assembly

A proposed ordinance will be the topic of a Hartford Civil Rights Community Forum Saturday (June 11) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Parker Memorial Family Center, 2621 Main Street in Hartford.

Sandra Staub, legal director of the ACLU of Connecticut, will join Mongi Dhaouadi of the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Connecticut, LaResse Harvey of A Better Way Foundation, and Hartford City Councilman Luis Cotto.

The sponsors note that in addition to failure to enact a new state law, the re-adoption of key elements of the federal Patriot Act is further reason to seek local action.
