CFAR Merging Into ACLU Foundation

CFAR, the 15-year-old Center for First Amendment Rights, will merge into the ACLU Foundation of Connecticut in mid-June.

The announcement was made at the annual Milton Sorokin Symposium by Ethel Sorokin, a co-founder of CFAR, and Don Noel, chair of the ACLUF.

ACLUF will continue the public education programs originated by CFAR, including outreach into public schools as well as the Sorokin itself. Those are seen as a complement to the ACLU's own outreach into schools.

"We're going to need our members to give us some help to shoulder these added burdens and costs," Noel said, "but we're confident our constituents will understand the importance of introducing the younger generation to their civil liberties heritage, and will pitch in."
