Connecticut’s Trust Act (passed in 2013, updated in 2019) limits how state and local law enforcement can support ICE. It was created after aggressive immigration raids in Danbury (2006) and New Haven (2007) sowed fear in immigrant communities. The law helps ensure that all residents—regardless of immigration status—can safely go to school, seek medical care, access the courts, and live their daily lives without fear.
But our current moment demands a strengthened Trust Act. A strengthened Trust Act (HB 7212) was introduced in the Judiciary Committee this year. And Connecticut has made it clear that we support a strengthened Trust Act. Over 600 testimonies were submitted in support, and the bill passed out of Committee. Now, as the legislative session comes to an end in 3 weeks, we need to ensure that Governor Lamont hears from us. Our immigrant communities need to feel safe in the place they call home. Tell Governor Lamont to stand with CT's immigrant community.
Join us on May 12th, May 13th, and May 14th for a CALLING DAY OF ACTION in support of immigrants and a strengthened Trust Act.
