As campaign manager, Gus Marks-Hamilton’s primary responsibilities include building the ACLU-CT’s advocacy infrastructure; strengthening its partnerships with key stakeholders; prioritizing directly impacted communities and individuals; and executing strategic issue-based campaigns, including the Smart Justice campaign. Gus joined the ACLU’s Smart Justice Campaign in the spring of 2018. During the 2018 gubernatorial race Gus worked to expand the Smart Justice campaign through public education and direct action across the state. More recently, Gus has worked to develop legislation to end mass incarceration in Connecticut and bring just, fair and humane policy reforms to the criminal legal system. Gus is passionate about promoting the civic and political engagement of people who have been directly impacted by the criminal legal system because those who are closest to the problems of incarceration and recovery are also closest to the solutions. Gus is a proud lifelong resident of Connecticut.
