Gus Marks-Hamilton joined the ACLU’s Smart Justice Campaign in the spring of 2018. Gus has worked to expand the Smart Justice campaign through public education and in the 2018 gubernatorial candidate education work. More recently, he has helped to develop legislation that will end mass incarceration in Connecticut. Gus is a Licensed Master Social Worker focused on expanding just, fair, humane, and effective policy reforms to Connecticut’s justice system. Gus is also passionate about promoting the political and civic engagement of men and women who have been impacted by the justice system, because those who are closest to the problems of incarceration and recovery are also closest to the solutions.
Gus is a proud lifelong resident of Connecticut. He received his bachelor’s degree in English and master’s degree in social work from the University of Connecticut and is also a certified Recovery Support Specialist.
