Bio

Erycka Ortiz joined the ACLU of Connecticut in 2022 and serves as the organization’s field organizer. In her role, Erycka focuses on building community in Fairfield County -- especially in Bridgeport, Stamford, and Norwalk – by working with ACLU of Connecticut supporters and allied organizations and groups to advance shared goals, build power, and advocate for liberation. An experienced organizer, Erycka previously worked alongside Black and Brown youth harmed by the school-to-prison pipeline and as a community liaison to build public health. An experienced public speaker, Erycka has also educated audiences about decentering gender and the politics of trans allyship, co-facilitated leadership trainings for youth, and developed and executed campaigns to center youth leadership at local and statewide levels. Erycka is a graduate of New London High School and of organizing trainings from BOLD, SOUL, and The Funder’s Collaborative on Youth Organizing. She is passionate about the livelihoods of those who are the most vulnerable and impacted by policing and all its forms. Erycka is Capricorn sun, and she loves plants and cooking!

Reflecting on the 2025 Legislative Session

The 2025 legislative session has come to a close, and it was certainly a trying session for all. In a session where roughly 3,800 bills were introduced, only about 380 bills were passed, rounding up to a passing rate of about ten percent.
