The American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut is urging lawmakers to pass a bill that would prevent employers from retaliating against immigrant workers who report wage, safety or other labor violations.
“When immigrants fear reporting unfair and unsafe working conditions it results in a dangerous workplace for all of Connecticut,” said David McGuire, staff attorney at the ACLU of Connecticut. “To deny immigrant workers the rights and protections afforded other employees is an equal protection violation and offends universal human rights principles, which provide labor protections to everyone.”
The ACLU of Connecticut is witnessing the vulnerability of immigrant labor firsthand. We've received numerous calls from desperate workers who faced various violations of their civil liberties, including employment protection.
