Summary

Before our very eyes, President Trump is ordering into our cities federal agents who are using secret police-style tactics to service his extremist, authoritarian agenda. Normally, the National Guard’s default role is under the control of the governor of each state or territory, only to be activated by the governor for purposes authorized by state laws and regulations with few exceptions. However, we have seen President Trump deploy National Guard troops within the U.S. under federal control, violently targeting our most vulnerable neighbors. We know that Trump’s abuses must be met with the direct power of the people.

That’s why this month, we’ll be joined by our public policy and advocacy director, Chelsea-Infinity Gonzalez, to discuss the Trump administration’s plan to deploy the National Guard in states and how that impacts us here in Connecticut. We will begin by level-setting with supporters about what the National Guard is and what their role entails before discussing what we the people have power over when considering the National Guard.

Join us for our office hour on November 19th at 5:30 p.m. EST. You can RSVP for this session here. See you there!

Note For This Event:

This will be a space for us to engage in discussion with you all regarding National Guard deployment federally and potentially in the state. We commit to maintaining a safe space for this discussion. This includes monitoring the chat, our participants' questions, and on-mic conversations for bad-faith sharing of harmful rhetoric and malinformation. In these instances, we reserve the right to mute, delete chats from, remove, etc. participants that disrupt the safety of our space.
