American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut Condemns the Unlawful Detention of Cheshire High School Student

Hartford, Conn. –  David McGuire, Executive Director with the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut, condemns the unlawful detention of a student from Cheshire High School:

"This is every parent's worst fear. Your child is on spring break during his senior year and is taken away without warning. That is a nightmare, and it is exactly what happens when the federal government abandons its commitment to due process, human dignity, and equal protection under the law. This young person is a member of our community, a student with dreams, friends, and a life rooted here in Connecticut, and his detention is both deeply troubling and profoundly unjust. No family should have to live with the fear that their child could be taken and put in a detention facility. We are demanding his immediate release and policies that treat all of our children with the dignity, fairness, and compassion they deserve."
