H.B. 5363 An Act Concerning an Online Registry for Convicted Murderers

The ACLU-CT supports the goal of protecting public safety, but we are very concerned about the practical and legal problems that the proposed registry would create. We urge the legislature to oppose this bill.

H.B. 6093 An Act Concerning Consideration of Immigration Status by Health Carriers

The ACLU-CT believes in equality for all people, no matter how much money they have, where they are from, or where their parents are from. By providing all people, regardless of immigration status, with the same access to affordable health insurance, House Bill 6093 upholds each of these ideals.

S.B. 402 An Act Creating a State Office to Investigate Complaints Against Police Officers

S.B. 402 recognizes the state's police complaint process is broken. Rather than forcing police misconduct victims to navigate a confusing process, wait for years, and never see complaints resolved, the legislature should pass this bill to create a state office to handle complaints against police.

In Connecticut, family members and friends of people killed by police, and the public, wait an average of 14 months for the release of an investigative final public report on a fatal shooting incident. Some have been forced to wait three years. We encourage the legislature to support H.B. 5757.

S.B. 831, An Act Concerning Minor Revisions to Special Parole and Parole Discharge Statutes

The ACLU-CT supports the rights of all people, including formerly incarcerated people who are on parole. We support this bill, which we believe would allow the Board of Pardons and Parole to ensure that special parole is only used for as long as is necessary.
