The ACLU of Connecticut works to ensure that all women have equal access to employment, free from discrimination. The ACLU-CT strongly encourages the legislature to support Senate Bill 765, a bill to ensure Connecticut workers receive fair and equal pay for equal work.

Connecticut residents who have been convicted of a felony are faced with discrimination when attempting to purchase life insurance policies. We therefore strongly encourage the legislature to support House Bill 5517, which would stop this form of discrimination.

S.B. 402 recognizes the state's police complaint process is broken. Rather than forcing police misconduct victims to navigate a confusing process, wait for years, and never see complaints resolved, the legislature should pass this bill to create a state office to handle complaints against police.

In Connecticut, family members and friends of people killed by police, and the public, wait an average of 14 months for the release of an investigative final public report on a fatal shooting incident. Some have been forced to wait three years. We encourage the legislature to support H.B. 5757.

The ACLU-CT supports the rights of all people, including formerly incarcerated people who are on parole. We support this bill, which we believe would allow the Board of Pardons and Parole to ensure that special parole is only used for as long as is necessary.

Restoring the right to vote for people who have been disenfranchised strengthens our democracy by increasing voter participation and helping formerly incarcerated people to reintegrate into society.

Allowing people to vote on college and university campuses would provide more people with the opportunity to vote.

As an organization that defends the right to vote and believes that enfranchisement is an incredibly important way for people to participate in our society, the ACLU-CT supports this bill, which would designate Election Day as a state holiday.

Connecticut should count people who are incarcerated as residents of their last town of residence and allow people who are incarcerated to vote in that district’s elections.
