SB 1181 would alter how statutes of limitation typically work by starting the clock at the discovery of the commission of the offense, rather than the commission of the offense.

The ACLU-CT opposes House Bill 6637 because it does not address a documented need and it is likely to increase mass incarceration. Victims currently have ample opportunity to partake in the trial and sentencing process in this state.

SB 464 is particularly concerning because it removes the requirement that all parties consent to a recording and instead would only require one party to consent.

The ACLU-CT does not support initiatives that increase the role of policing in our society, and instead supports the reinvestment of funds from policing into programs that support community strength and health as the means to truly move Connecticut in the right direction.

LGBTQ+ people should be able to participate fully in life free from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity on the job; in housing; when shopping or getting services at restaurants, hotels, or other public places; and when accessing government programs and services.

Protecting our eldest residents is important, but public registries will limit the ability of people living with criminal records to contribute to society and build successful and fulfilling lives for themselves and their families

Protections against housing discrimination provide important supports to people in difficult situations. There is no circumstance in which it is acceptable for a landlord to discriminate against a tenant because of their status as a suvivor of domestic violence.

While no one wants to see any animal injured or killed at the hands of a human, doubling the potential penalty for this category of offense is not the answer.

The ACLU-CT unwaveringly supports the constitutional right to seek an abortion. As anti-abortion politicians across the country deny our freedom and obstruct access to abortion, the ACLU-CT supports legislation that increases access to abortion.
