All people deserve access to affordable and quality health care. Senate Bills 1202, 1203, and 1205 are all aimed at making health care in this state accessible, whether it be through relief from medical debt, affordable prescription drugs, or expanding access to peer recovery support groups.

The federal Indian Child Welfare Act was passed by Congress in 1978 to address the nationwide epidemic of Indigenous children being forcibly removed from their homes and tribes by child welfare agencies. The need to bring a version of ICWA into Connecticut’s statutes has never been more pressing.

The First Amendment is clear. Government actors and agencies cannot and should not censor people for disagreeing with them, whether that is at a town meeting, on a public sidewalk, or online.

The importance of the right to vote cannot be overstated. Yet, the State of Connecticut long denied this fundamental right to its Black citizens and other citizens of color. From its founding through the recent past, Connecticut has a troubling history of racial discrimination in voting.

Tens of thousands of workers in Connecticut begin their work week without knowing their schedule. They work with unpredictable, fluctuating work weeks that they cannot control. These workers cannot rely on their jobs to provide stability or a consistent paycheck.

Voting is a foundation of democracy, a right through which we can protect and preserve our other rights. One way to encourage higher youth vote turnout is through pre-registration, where young adults complete voter registration ahead of their eighteenth birthday.

The ACLU of Connecticut envisions a thriving, safe society for all people. We cannot jail our way into a lower gun violence rate or real public safety.
