People involved in our criminal justice system who finish their sentences have paid their debt to society. They deserve to live their lives in Connecticut’s communities without barriers to being happy, productive, law- abiding residents.

One step towards eradicating police killings is to make the law clear that police are authorized to use deadly force only in narrow situations, rather than giving police wide latitude to shoot, beat, Tase, or otherwise injure or kill people.

As an organization that fights to ensure Connecticut residents are afforded the right to privacy, the ACLU-CT supports legislative efforts to put personal data back in the hands of Connecticut consumers, rather than powerful corporations.

We cannot have full and equitable participation in society by women and other people who menstruate unless we ensure safe and affordable access to menstrual products to everyone who needs them.

We strongly encourage the committee to support House Bill 6440, which would create a tax credit for businesses that hire a certain number of full-time employees. A major barrier that prevents people with a criminal record from fully participating in society is the inability to obtain employment.

Decisions about end-of-life care are deeply personal. Each terminally ill person should have the right to make their own decisions about how to spend their final days and how to face death.
