All people in Connecticut have a right to safe, stable, and affordable housing.

The most frequent way that police come into contact with community members is through traffic enforcement. As with many types of policing, traffic enforcement disproportionately impacts Black and brown people.

The ACLU-CT believes that highly militarized policing should be defunded in favor of investing those funds into the programs, resources, and services that truly create stable, healthy, and safe communities. Highly militarized police units, like SWAT teams, turn communities into war zones.

The ACLU-CT SB 1076 because we believe all people should have the liberty to make personal, intimate decisions about their death when facing a terminal diagnosis.

The ACLU-CT unwaveringly supports the right to safe, affordable access to the full range of contraceptive options and abortion.

Deceptive interrogation tactics are outdated and ineffective threats to justice. SB 1071 would be a first step toward ending this deceitful manipulation of children, who are some of the most vulnerable people in interrogations.

The ACLU-CT opposes criminal prohibition of drugs, including psilocybin and cannabis. There are better ways to control drug use, like harm reduction, that will ultimately lead to a healthier and freer society.

The ACLU-CT believes that in order to reduce the harm that policing is causing communities of color across the state, Connecticut must reduce the role, responsibilities, and presence of police. Police presence in schools is a key link in the school-to-prison pipeline.

The ACLU-CT believes in everyone’s right to free expression, and that includes speech by faculty members at public institutions of higher education on their scholarship, research, teaching, and on matters of public interest.
