The ACLU-CT is an organization dedicated to ending mass incarceration and eliminating systemic racism in the criminal legal system.

In 2021, the ACLU-CT supported Clean Slate, a bill that automatically erases criminal records after a defined conviction-free period. HB 6918 makes clarifying changes to Clean Slate to increase its coverage.

The ACLU-CT believes that all people deserve equal access to reproductive health services. The ACLU-CT opposes criminal prohibition of drugs.

Currently, consumers including Connecticut residents generally expect sensitive health information and data to remain confidential. But unfortunately, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) only protects personally identifiable health information as confidential.

The ACLU-CT strongly supports measures to ensure equal access to the ballot box, like early voting. Without fully funding for equitable early voting in Connecticut, an early voting plan is meaningless.

Senate Bill 1068 would provide financial assistance to uninsured and underinsured people who need pre-exposure or post-exposure prophylaxis who cannot pay for preventative HIV medicines. No person should risk contracting HIV just because they cannot afford health care.

Among the most vulnerable people who become enmeshed in the criminal legal system are young people under the age of eighteen, who suffer unique harms due to their involvement in the criminal legal system and are more likely to experience even wider racial disparities than exist for adults.
