Section Thirteen of this bill prevents school employees from searching a student's electronic device unless the school has a reasonable, individualized suspicion that the student has violated or is violating an educational policy and that the device contained evidence of that violation. During a device search, school employees also would have been prohibited from copying, sharing, or otherwise transferring student data that was unrelated to the suspected violation of school policy.
