Domestic violence deprives people of their fundamental human rights and particularly harms cisgender women and girls and LGBTQ people. Women and girls experience domestic violence at alarming rates, while our government, laws, and policies contribute to the systematic devaluation of the lives and safety of women and girls by failing to adequately respond. Protections against housing discrimination provide important supports to people in difficult situations. There is no circumstance in which it is acceptable for a landlord to discriminate against a tenant because of their status as a suvivor of domestic violence.
