This bill would have added veteran status to Connecticut's non-discrimination provisions regarding employment, public accommodations, the sale or rental of housing, the granting of credit, and other laws over which the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO) has jurisdiction. Through this bill, CHRO hearing officers who discover discriminatory employment practices would also be required, rather than allowed, to order employers to hire or reinstate a worker and to restore an employee's membership in any corresponding labor organizations. CHRO also would have been able to require an employer to promote an employee if discrimination had occurred.
