As Connecticut faces decisions about its economy, leaders from the ACLU of Connecticut’s Smart Justice campaign, each of whom had been directly impacted by the criminal justice system, called on Connecticut to invest in opportunities for all people instead of incarceration.
ACLU of Connecticut executive director David McGuire had the following reaction to footage of Hartford Police Department employee Stephen Barone telling a group of people that he was “trigger happy,” and “could [get] a ton of money on overtime if I have to shoot somebody.”
HARTFORD — Federal ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents today chased a man from outside of the Danbury Superior Courthouse into the street, where he was hit by a car.

In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court of the United States has upheld the Trump administration’s third Muslim ban. The national American Civil Liberties Union and partner organizations have challenged every version of the ban.
