In 2021, the ACLU-CT supported Clean Slate, a bill that automatically erases criminal records after a defined conviction-free period. HB 6918 makes clarifying changes to Clean Slate to increase its coverage.

People involved in our criminal legal system who finish their sentences have paid their debt to society. But rather than support people with criminal records to thrive in their communities, CT barricades them from education opportunities, employment, and essential social services.

Prosecutors hold people’s lives and fates in their hands. We think that with that enormous power should come more oversight and transparency.

Connecticut is stronger and safer when all people have a fair chance of accessing housing. People who are formally incarcerated are nearly ten times more likely to be homeless than any other members of the public.
