We urge the legislature to oppose House Bill 5198, which jeopardizes public safety and due process rights in our state.

We believe the best solution to the tension between the right to privacy and the right to vote has a simple solution: allowing voters to opt out of data disclosure.

This bill is not necessary and could inordinately burden the right to vote for people lacking governmental ID. For that reason, the ACLU-CT opposes Senate Bill 239, An Act Concerning Auditing of Signed Statements of Electors Prior to Voting.

We oppose S.B. 241, as it is a burdensome, unnecessary, and vote-discouraging solution in search of problem.

The ACLU-CT supports S.B. 134 and S.B. 137, which would increase consumer privacy protections. We also support H.B. 5174, which would prevent consolidation of ownership of marijuana dispensaries, and we encourage the legislature to expand it to include restorative justice measures.

We cannot have full and equitable participation in society by women and other people who menstruate unless we ensure safe and affordable access to menstrual products to everyone who needs them.

We encourage the legislature to support this bill, which includes restoring the right to vote for people on parole, and providing for automatic voter registration.
