As an organization that fights to ensure Connecticut residents are afforded the right to privacy, the ACLU-CT supports legislative efforts to put personal data back in the hands of Connecticut consumers, rather than powerful corporations.

We urge the legislature to oppose House Bill 5198, which jeopardizes public safety and due process rights in our state.

We believe the best solution to the tension between the right to privacy and the right to vote has a simple solution: allowing voters to opt out of data disclosure.

The ACLU-CT supports S.B. 134 and S.B. 137, which would increase consumer privacy protections. We also support H.B. 5174, which would prevent consolidation of ownership of marijuana dispensaries, and we encourage the legislature to expand it to include restorative justice measures.

The ACLU of Connecticut strongly supports the net neutrality and consumer privacy protections included in Senate Bill 5, An Act Concerning Internet Service Providers and Net Neutrality Principles. We urge the legislature to pass this bill.

The ACLU-CT opposes this proposal because it would severely curtail the privacy rights and liberty interests of people with serious mental health conditions.

Each terminally ill person should have the right to make their own decisions about how to spend their final days and how to face death.

We all want to live in democratic communities, and we value government accountability. When police acquire and use surveillance technology in secret, without public approval or debate, it undermines democracy, transparency, and accountability for everyone.
