S.B. 239, An Act Concerning Auditing of Signed Statements of Electors Prior to Voting

This bill is not necessary and could inordinately burden the right to vote for people lacking governmental ID. For that reason, the ACLU-CT opposes Senate Bill 239, An Act Concerning Auditing of Signed Statements of Electors Prior to Voting.

S.B. 241, An Act Concerning Auditing of Election Day Registration

We oppose S.B. 241, as it is a burdensome, unnecessary, and vote-discouraging solution in search of problem.

S.B. 53, An Act Concerning Electoral Privileges for Incarcerated Individuals

Mass incarceration, combined with disenfranchisement laws, subverts participatory democracy, particularly for communities of color. Restoring the right to vote for people who are incarcerated is a key step in dismantling these harmful and discriminatory laws.

H.B. 5818, An Act Extending the Hours of Election Day Registration and H.B. 6045, An Act Concerning Election Day and Primary Day Registration

The ACLU-CT strongly supports a free and fair voting system to uphold the foundational cornerstone of our democracy: the right to vote. We therefore support these measures, which would provide more people with the opportunity to participate in Connecticut elections.

S.B. 156, An Act Concerning the Secretary of the State and Absentee Voting and S.B. 915, An Act Concerning Town Clerks and Elections

Voting is the foundation of our democracy and a fundamental right. Providing additional ways to request absentee ballots and removing barriers to voting absentee would strengthen both the representation of our democracy and our state.
