In 2021, the ACLU-CT supported Clean Slate, a bill that automatically erases criminal records after a defined conviction-free period. HB 6918 makes clarifying changes to Clean Slate to increase its coverage.

Tens of thousands of workers in Connecticut begin their work week without knowing their schedule. They work with unpredictable, fluctuating work weeks that they cannot control. These workers cannot rely on their jobs to provide stability or a consistent paycheck.

All people in Connecticut have a right to safe, stable, and affordable housing.

The ACLU-CT believes that everyone deserves access to safe, sanitary, and affordable housing, including justice-impacted people.

Connecticut is stronger and safer when a person who is formerly incarcerated has a fair chance of accessing a job, housing, and education. Yet, people who are formally incarcerated are nearly ten times more likely to be homeless than any other members of the public.

All people in Connecticut, regardless of whether they have a criminal record, should have the right to safe and stable housing.

The ACLU-CT believes that all people, including people living with criminal records and incarcerated people, are entitled to the opportunity to access employment and dignity in the workplace.

People involved in our criminal justice system who finish their sentences have paid their debt to society. They deserve to live their lives in Connecticut’s communities without barriers to being happy, productive, law- abiding residents.
